Greenwich has named ANZ a top-five bank in Asia for the seventh consecutive year.

ANZ has strengthened its reputation as one of the leading banks in Asia after being named number one in terms of overall relationship quality for the second time.

Consultant group Greenwich Associates’ latest large corporate banking study names ANZ first in the relationship stakes for the second-consecutive year, as well as in the top five overall for corporate banks in Asia.

ANZ was also ranked first for overall quality in China and Hong Kong – that too for the second year – and was recognised as the bank considered most likely to win more wallet share in 2019.

ANZ Group Executive International Farhan Faruqui says the recognition comes at a time the bank’s international strategy is moving to target the market and institutional-customer universe.

“We are pleased to be recognised once again for our consistent efforts in providing high-quality customer advice and services in a highly competitive industry,” he says.

“ANZ is committed to our business in Asia, which remains at the heart of our institutional strategy of supporting customers with trade and capital flows in the region.”

Recognition

Greenwich’s yearly survey is an independent questionnaire which speaks to almost 800 Asia-domiciled groups and foreign subsidiaries. It processes responses from groups across 11 markets with an annual turnover of more than $US500 million.

The study measures overall market penetration in Asia - excluding Australia, New Zealand and Japan. It attempts to define relationship quality at both an institutional and individual manager level.

The news comes after ANZ reaffirmed its place at the top of the trade finance tree, named the best in the business in both Australia and New Zealand. Earlier in January Global Finance Magazine handed ANZ awards for Best Trade Finance Provider in both of its core operating countries.

In December 2018, ANZ was named Asian Bank of the Year by IFR Asia, a trade publication under the Thomson Reuters group.

Elsewhere, ANZ’s trade and supply chain offerings were recognised as part of nine awards from The Asset magazine in April 2018. The bank also received a gong from the East & Partners’ Australian Trade Finance Survey in the same month – its eighth-consecutive award.
